In 1847, Madison Square Park (MSP) officially opened. There were numerous famous people who lived around the park including Oscar Wild, Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain, J.P. Morgan, and Thomas Edison.

The Hoffman family of New York was a prominent family who came to the US from Swedish Estonia in 1657. Samual Verplanck Hoffman and his family moved into the space in 1866.
